SIPTU opened its new Workers Rights Welcome Centre (WRWC), which is open to all workers who wish to ‘drop in’ for information on workplace issues, on the Dan Shaw Road in Navan, County Meath on Tuesday, 15th November.
SIPTU Organiser, John Regan, said: “It is significant that SIPTU chose Navan to open its third WRC, after those in Dublin and Cork. It shows the importance that the union places on representing the interests of workers in County Meath and with swiftly dealing with their issues in the workplace.
“WRC staff are committed to providing up to date free, confidential and accurate information on workplace issues to members of the public who drop in off the street. Representation will be further offered to those who wish to avail of the expertise and knowledge currently available to SIPTU members.”
He added: “To promote the opening of the WRC all those who drop into it before 25th November will be entered into a draw for an underground bus trip in Boliden Tara Mines on Saturday 3rd December.”
Head of the SIPTU WRC, Tom O’Driscoll, said: “The forerunner to the WRC was established in 2010. Since then WRC Advocates and Information Assistants have provided advice and representation to thousands of SIPTU members. During this period, the WRC has saved the jobs of many of these workers or satisfactorily addressed their grievances. The WRC is also the single biggest user of the State’s employment rights bodies recovering close to €20 million in compensation for workers.
“The opening of Workers Rights Centres which are open to the public, as well as SIPTU members, means more workers can avail of expert advice from the WRC staff. The new centre in Navan is a perfect complement to the WRC website and dedicated helpline number of 1890 747 881. It allows those workers who are suffering unfair treatment at work and who would prefer face to face advice in a confidential and empathetic setting, to drop in to the centre.”
The SIPTU WRC in Navan will be open from 10.00 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. on weekdays. The WRC can also be contacted on 046 902 3437.
